Museum services
Modern electrical, plumbing and air-conditioning equipment was installed in the 1980s to allow the building to function as a museum. In 1990 the Historic Houses Trust simplified and reorganised these services and decided to present them as modern elements, distinct from historic surfaces. Previously hidden pipes, ducts and electrical cable trays were separated from walls. Newly installed components were painted grey to distinguish them from earlier systems.
